Features - D-M40

Following in the footsteps of the multi-award winning D-M39S, the new D-M40 features serious Hi-Fi quality CD Receiver RCD-M40 along with optimized two-way speaker system SC-M40. For almost 20 years now, Denon’s M Series has been developed to meet the needs of modern day audio enthusiast that want a micro size stereo system but with the least compromises on sound and build quality. The latest development comes with improved connectivity options such as two digital optical inputs to hook up a TV, set-top box or other digital gear that deserves improved audio quality. Of course it plays all sources like CD, FM radio or USB media including iDevices in impeccable quality too.

"Simple & Straight" Circuit Design

For Sound Purity and Free of Coloration

Denon’s popular M series gives you high sound quality based on the “simple & straight” concept. Circuitry is uncomplicated, signal paths are short, and all adverse influences on sound quality have been minimized. The circuit design and the way the chassis is built ensure that the sound you hear is utterly faithful to the original performance.

Direct Play For iPod and iPhone via USB

You can also listen to music files from your iPod by simply connecting it to the USB port with the USB cable that came with the iPod. Digital signals from the iPod are transmitted as is to the D-M40 and are processed by advanced audio circuitry to produce a clean, high-quality sound. Moreover, the D-M40’s USB port is not only capable of playing MP3 and WMA files, but also lossless FLAC, WAV and AAC.

Triple Noise Reduction Design

In an audio component where various circuits, boards, and wire layouts can influence each other, it is not possible to obtain satisfying specifications or sound simply by strengthening the power amp circuit. Denon has therefore eliminated three sources of noise to ensure that the sound is as clean as possible. Distortion from the input selector, electronic volume and power amp has been suppressed to improve the signal-to-noise ratio and produce an even smoother, dramatic sound.

Enjoy Premium Sound

The D-M40’s compact size allows for easy setup on a bookshelf, in a bedroom or in the home office. With several color combinations, it easily blends into one’s daily life, delivering impeccable performance at the same time.

Denon SC-M40 speaker

These speakers have been designed with Denon Hi-Fi craftsmanship and European Sound engineering. For best performance a high quality 12 cm woofer / midrange chassis has been combined with a high definition tweeter and a crossover network with selected components to reproduces the smoothness of natural sound.

I notice that this device supports up to iPhone 6. Will there be a firmware update for iPhone 7, plus, and further models such as iPhone 8?

Asked by: Enjoy7
Hello. There are no updates planned at this time, but I have confirmed that the iPhone 7 does play through the D-M40.

I have an older vinyl record player that requires an amplifier and am wondering if this has any amplifying capabilities or not!? thx

Asked by: renwick
Hi Renwick. The D-M40 does not have a phono input. If your turntable does not have a preamp built in, you will need to add an external phono preamp in order to connect to the D-M40.

What's the best blue tooth adapter for dm40

Asked by: Nick Blue
Hello. We can't recommend a specific adapter, but it would have to either connect to an optical input, or the analog input on the back. This unit is not compatible with a USB Bluetooth adapter. Thanks!

Is there any issue connecting a older DP-200USB turntable to this?

Asked by: FunkFan
Hi FunkFan. The DP-200USB has a built-in phono EQ that enables the unit to output line level. If the EQ is enabled on the DP-200USB, you can connect it directly to the D-M40 Analog In to listen to your records.

Which extra sub-woofer is recommended?

Asked by: Neil
Hi Neil. The D-M40 only outputs preamp signal without any burden on the internal amplifiers. This means that you can use any powered sub of your choice. Thanks!

hello, I can't find anywhere the mW delivered by the headphone output socket. I know there are 3 level of gain, but I really need to understand if it can drive properly hi-end headphones that need 600mw/32ohm. Thanks a lot!

Asked by: dave70
Hi Dave70. You should set the HP Amp gain to High. This puts out about 500mw at 32 Ohms. It's not likely that 600mw is the minimum power to drive those headphones, so the 500mw output should be right in their comfort zone.
