Reference Over-Ear Headphones

AH-D7200 is Denon’s new reference headphone, drawing on more than 50 years’ experience in headphone design and development. Over five decades we have refined our expertise in making fine-sounding headphones so comfortable you’ll just want to keep on listening. These premium headphones use our unique, Japanese-made FreeEdge drivers, which deliver a precise pistonic motion for ultra-accurate sound with minimal distortion. The drivers are mounted on vibration-reducing engineering resin baffles, fitted into self-damping real walnut housings designed to bring warmth and life to the sound. A detachable 7N-purity copper cable, made in Japan to Denon’s exacting specification, ensures the best possible signal transmission – it’s fitted with a durable machine-cut metal plug with an ornamental copper ring. The ear cups are suspended on a headband finished in real sheepskin leather, with ergonomically curved diecast aluminium hangers, while the memory foam ear-cushions are covered with an extremely soft artificial leather developed specifically for the AH-D7200. Every part of this no-compromise design is all about sound quality, comfort – and the ultimate listening experience.

Unique FreeEdge driver technology

At the heart of the AH-D7200 is that 50mm FreeEdge driver diaphragm, made from a nano-fiber material chosen for its rigidity and low mass. This delivers an accurate pistonic motion without distortion, and is also self-damping to cancel out unwanted resonances within the diaphragm. It’s mounted in a soft, compliant surround, making it easier for it to move in response to the music signal without flexing or distorting, for the purest possible sound.

Real wood ear cups

The beautiful 100% natural walnut ear cups enhance the sound experience. They are self-damping and strong, eliminating unwanted vibrations for super-detailed reproduction that brings concert hall-like life, warmth, and musicality to your listening experience.

Ultra-high-quality connection

A detachable 7N-purity copper cable, made in Japan to Denon's exacting specification, ensure the best possible signal transmission - it's fitted with a durable machine-cut metal plug with an ornamental copper ring.

Perfect Adjustment

To accomodate varied head-sizes, the adjustable headband uses positive ball-bearing click-stops for precise and repeatable adjusment. Numbered markings indicate how to restore your personal setting quickly and precisely.

Wearing Comfort

The headband deploys perfectly ergonomically contoured die-cast aluminum construction for optimized comfort and fit. The ear-pads are gently wrapped in an extremely soft engineered leather developed specifically for the AH-D7200, and memory foam, allowing them to conform to the shape of your head for the most comfortable fit. Every component of this compromise free design is all about sound quality and comfort - the ultimate listening experience.

Luxurious Craftsmanship

The outside of the headband is adorned with natural sheepskin leather for a soft luxurious feel, while the inside uses stitched engineered leather for ultimate comfort and durability.

Would aftermarket replacement wood cups designed for previous Denon, Fostex, and EMU be able to attach to these?

Asked by: rhenom
The AH-D7200 headphones have beautiful walnut ear cups which are designed to optimize the acoustic performance of the headphones. It would be a shame to remove them in favor of a different ear cup. If you do find replacement ear cups for these headphones or other Denon models, I can't vouch for the acoustic outcome or guarantee that they will fit.

What type of connectors are on does the cable use? TRS? Does Denon plan to offer a balanced cable?

Asked by: rhenom
Hi rhenom. The AH-D7200 headphones have a detachable cable with a stereo 1/4 inch TRS (tip ring sleeve) connector. There are no plans to offer a balanced cable at this time.

I already own the d7100 and use it on a daily basis. Is the d7200 muchbbetter and should I think about buying it?

Asked by: AudioMark
Hi AudioMark. There are some major differences, which I'll outline for you. The AH-D7200 goes back to a basic wood design reminiscent of the classic AH-D7000. The AH-D7200 returns to metal hanger construction, and has walnut earcups, while the AH-D7100 earcups were mahogany, with mold hangers. Building on the great sound of its predecessors, the AH-D7200 boasts upgraded audio quality thanks to a short voice coil with powerful Neodymium magnets (over 1 tesla), as well as a newly shaped diaphragm and free edge driver for less distortion and higher frequency reproduction of 5-55,000Hz (vs the AH-D7100 at 5-45000Hz). The AH-D7200 has been tuned for a more relaxed audio experience with more body, sound-stage, and resolution, with upgraded comfort due to the Denon original artificial sheep skin leather headband and a center balanced weight distribution. To top it all off, the simple design shows off just how beautiful these headphones really are.

Is there a FR chart? I want to know if this is tuned to be more "flat" natural tone with good resolution or house signature of Fostex/Denon predecessors where it's more V-Shaped tuning?
